Monkey Chow Diaries: Day2

The Day 2 video diary is up at the Monkey Chow page and the Day 3 entry should be up soon. The authors of Freakonomics, who are well known for looking at things through interesting lenses, have linked to the Monkey Chow Diaries through their blog. Thanks fellas.

I watched your video for day 2 of the Monkey Chow diet. You were reading some of the ingredients and didn't know what BHA is. I don't know if you've found out what it is or if someone else has told you, but it is beta hydroxy acid (as opposed to AHA, or alpha hydroxy acid, which are different fruit enzymes, like the citric acid you mentioned). A common BHA is salicylic acid, which is used quite frequently in skincare products to help control oil production and to counter the effects of aging. But, it is also found in food as well, as a preserver. So I wouldn't let that worry you too much. Good luck with your project!

Salicylic acid also part of aspirin though. There can be some serious effects from chronic salicylism, but there's no saying that it is even the BHA in the food or that it would be any more than the 325 mg that people get with a daily aspirin
