Angry Elephants

From today's Globe and Mail Social Studies column:

Last week, angry elephants caused a 50-vehicle traffic
jam in Voi, Kenya, after a bus plowed into and killed a bull
calf on one of the nation's busiest highways. Eight elephants
from the herd to which the three-month-old calf belonged surrounded
the bus, making shrieking noises, and attempted to charge it,
says The Daily Telegraph. Kenya Wildlife Service wardens were
called to the scene and managed to disperse the animals by shooting
rifles into the air.

This reminds me of a story I read about gorillas coming to reclaim thier young. The story goes poachers/dummies whatever captured several young gorllias. The whole group came to village where they were being kept and shieked and destoryed food stuffs and poperty until the young where released. Then they peacefully went on thier way. Whoever said that animals of any kind don't have sophistcated social stuctures and a general idea of family, apparently have never met these animals.
